Name derivation:
Greek 'thysanotos' fringed, alluding to the 3 inner perianth-segments and 'baueri' after Franz and Ferdinand Bauer 19th century Austrian botanical artists and brothers
Distribution:
Grows in wooded areas and open plains in inland regions
Plant description:
Herb with small rhizome. Leaves annual and often withering at anthesis, narrow-linear, much shorter than the inflorescence. Inflorescences 15-30 cm tall, simple or branched, racemose, rarely paniculate, 8–30 cm long; flowers in several sessile 2-5-flowered umbels, perianth-segments 8-15 mm long, blue. Flowering October - January.
